Making Work Work: A Conversation with Creative Mothers at the Royal Society of Arts
As a mother running my own creative business, I know firsthand how complex it can be to find your path forward while raising a family. That's why I'm thrilled to be hosting a special International Women's Day event at the Royal Society of Arts on Monday, 3rd March, bringing together remarkable women who are charting their own paths in combining creative careers with motherhood.
Why This Conversation Matters Now
There's something powerful about hearing someone say "I did that thing you're afraid can't be done." The creative industries and creativity itself offer incredible opportunities for innovation and self-expression, but as a mother to a vibrant little girl (with another on the way this Spring!), I know how challenging it can be to see a clear path forward. That's exactly why we need to have these conversations – to share our stories, challenges, and successes openly and honestly.
Join Us for an Evening of Real Talk
I'm honoured to be hosting a conversation with two other extraordinary women who are defining success on their own terms:
- Laxmi Hussain: An incredible artist whose work beautifully explores themes of motherhood and identity, challenging conventional narratives through her distinctive style
- Charlie Sells: The brilliant Founder of Jelly, who's revolutionising how one of London's leading illustration agencies models creating possibilities for working mothers and creative leadership
Together, we'll be having an honest conversation about our journeys, sharing both the opportunities and challenges of building creative careers while raising families. This isn't about presenting a perfect solution – there’s no one size fits all. It's about opening up a dialogue about what's possible and supporting each other along the way.
What We'll Explore Together
We'll be diving into real conversations about:
- Creating sustainable creative practices that work for our families
- Finding our own definitions of success (and letting go of others' expectations)
- Building support systems that actually work
- Practical strategies we've learned along the way
- The unexpected joys and challenges of combining creativity with motherhood
